We used to be apple country out here, and the festival, when it started, was a means to celebrate a good bloom in the orchards . . . and by default a profitable harvest in fall. You'd think the harvest celebration would be bigger, but no. . . the first weekend in May is the perfect opportunity to shed off the last dregs of winter and have the biggest party since New Year's. Never mind that it can snow here sometimes as late as mid-May.
It's just about 2 weeks of various events, dinners, and hob-nobbing, which ultimately wrap up in 3 days of parades, house parties, carnival, and the circus . . . with occasional sightings of (and hob-nobbing with) various celebrities. To sum it up via a t-shirt slogan I saw this spring: "Apple Blossom: 3 days of parties with a parade problem."

So here are a few photos from this year's ABF. Cast of characters included: Erik Estrada (not shown in the web album), Bo Bice, a bunch of country, broadway, and sports folks, my neighbor Meg and her daughters Becca and Aimee, my sister Pam and her kids Johnny and Kaitlyn . . . and a few random others by way of people watching and touring the Midway. Meg got the best photo of Erik (clearly having a good time on Friday, clearly hung over on Saturday---tut, tut, Ponch, I thought you'd know to pace yourself!), but I got the best shot of Bo! See the whole album here.
