The Dryer Giveth, and the Dryer Taketh Away

March 17th, 2009

The luck-o-the Irish be with me today, lasses and lads! I'd overshot my laundry 'lowest common denominator' (that is, I was out of clean jeans this week, as opposed to socks or underwear, which is the usual case), so I was at the laundromat tonight. Lucky thing, too, because I was able to solve one of the modern-day mysteries!

Q. Where do missing socks go when the dryer 'eats' them??
A. They exit out another dryer.

I am NOT kidding--I checked the washers for Leavings before I loaded in my stuff. Then I checked them again when I took my stuff out, looking for potential future Missing Socks. Then I checked the dryer for Leavings before putting my stuff in. As I was folding my clothes later, I discovered I had:
  • 1 missing sock (my own)
  • 2 "other" socks (not a pair, and not my own)

Somebody in the universe lost two socks in the dryer tonight, and I got them. (I wonder if the same person got my one missing sock????)

And this is no blarney!
