I just fell off the face of the earth for a little while!
Actually, I'm still there . . . off the face of the earth. This time of year is normally a busy reporting time for us at work, and this year has been no exception. After Gustav and Ike tore through the gulf coast, however, I've had my hands full with repair trips and assisting a branch office with their end-of-season sampling activities. It's been more crazy than usual, but I love it.
I was in Louisiana last week, and I'm in central Missouri this week . . . will be here for another week. My mom asked me if I missed home yet, and I had to think about that for a second. I miss seeing my friends every weekend, I miss my cats, I miss my apartment (current wreck that it is), but the actual location of home I don't miss.
(I DO miss my family, but I talk more to them when I'm away than when I'm home, which is not only weird but also a new insight--I need to visit with my family more.)
As I was telling my mom, central Missouri looks and feels alot like home in northern Virginia. Rolling hills, university town with vast medical buildings, historic old town surrounded by new mall complexes, pasture land 10 minutes outside the city limits. It's just like home, with a slightly farther commute to my sister's house . . .
