Heirlooms NOW (editors, you need a dictionary)

A while ago I checked out a website or blog called Knitting Daily and subscribed to the posts . . . I forget now why, but I seriously need to squash that. They aren't kidding about the "daily"--I get an email EVERY day.

Anywho, today's recycle bin fodder came in with the subject line of "Knitting An Heirloom (in just two weeks!)".

This seems corked somehow, the wording is wrong for what they're trying to say. I mean, an heirloom is not something that is created by virtue of the time it took to make it . . . an heirloom is something that obtains value over the course of time.

I can whip out a set of sterling silver and semi-precious stone/gem earrings in less than 10 minutes that someone may keep in their possession for years and then someday pass along to a favourite relative--because I made it in 10 minutes doesn't make it less of an heirloom to that relative. Because I made it in 10 minutes YESTERDAY doesn't make it an heirloom at all. It's got to appreciate in emotional value, and that takes time.

Editors at Knitting Daily, get thee a dictionary or bookmark something to help you out with that. Sheesh.
